Watch: Looking back at the 2013 BRIT Awards
As we approach nearly a month since the 2013 BRIT Awards, we’re feeling sentimental as we look back on yet another memorable year. As British music culture and digital innovations continue to evolve and coalesce, so does the country’s biggest musical event: The BRIT Awards continually look to mirror the vast creativity rooted within British music, which means year after year, there’s always an element of surprise to look forward t
2013 brought some pioneering moments we will never forget – the first-ever Global Success award (winners - 1D - who else?), Justin Timberlake’s musical comeback and one of the biggest and baddest stage designs yet. Not only did the show light up the O2 arena, but it lit up on social media worldwide.
Expanding the BRIT Awards global presence drove a massive digital expansion, marking 2013 as the biggest digital BRITs to date. Fans were given a true insider's perspective leading up to, during and after the awards through the BRIT Awards Official YouTube channel. We featured exclusive interviews and acoustic sessions from some of the year's biggest stars including Emeli Sande, James Arthur and Tom Odell, followed rising and established stars such as Jessie Ware, Rudimental and Stooshe on their journey to the BRITs and had British superstar Paloma Faith hosting our red carpet at the nominations launch - and if that wasn't enough, we took viewers behind the scenes at the awards themselves with Radio One's Zane Lowe.
The BRITs impact on Twitter was bigger than ever before: Nearly doubling the 2012 numbers at over 2 million Twitter mentions, it was clear the world was watching. Supported by increasing fanbases on Facebook, Tumblr, Vine and Instagram, the BRITs became a truly digital awards ceremony in 2013.
