2012 nominees: British Group
Our nominations for the British Group at the BRIT Awards 2012 with MasterCard is an all male affair. Lets hear it for the boys.
The nominees for British Group are:
Arctic Monkeys
Chase & Status
Coldplay
Elbow
Kasabian
Serial BRITs winners, Arctic Monkeys return with their third nomination for British Group, having previously won in 2007 and 2008. They also have awards for the MasterCard British album in those same years, so will they triumph again in 2012?
Dance duo Chase & Status released one of the most impressive and eclectic albums of the past year, featuring guest vocals from the likes of BRITs winners Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Cee Lo Green, Critics' Choice nominee Maverick Sabre and hotly tipped new star Delilah - among many others. This London duo prove that beats can rival the bands with their British Group nomination. Chase & Status are the only group on the nominations list not to have previously won the award.
Showing no signs of slowing as they enter their 12th year on the charts, Coldplay recently scored their second No.1 single with 'Paradise'. But a career isn't measured on the number chart toppers, as Coldplay have proven. Despite only hitting the UK top spot twice in their career, Coldplay are arguably one of the biggest bands on the planet, and have previously won the British Group award in 2001 and 2003.
Elbow are also recipients of the British Group award, having won at the 2009 BRITs. Having previously been nominated for British Newcomer, British Live Act and MasterCard British Album, the boys are back on the nominations list after the success of their spectacular 2011 album, Build A Rocket Boys.
Like Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Elbow, Kasabian are no strangers to winning the British Group award, having taken home the trophy in 2010. These rock 'n roll hard-men returned to the charts in 2011 with their Velociraptor! album, and return once again to the BRITs nominations shortlist.
