2012 nominees: British Breakthrough Act
Every year sees countless new artists making an impact on the British music scene, and 2011 was no exception. This year's British Breakthrough Act represent the diversity in young British talent.
The nominees for British Breakthrough Act are:
Anna Calvi
Ed Sheeran
Emeli Sandé
Jessie J
The Vaccines
Anna Calvi has already found herself named on the BBC's Sound of 2011 list as well as earning a Mercury Music Prize nomination for her self-titled debut album last year. She now adds a nomination in the 2012 BRIT Awards.
Ed Sheeran has been releasing music since 2005, but it was only in 2011 that he broke into the mainstream with debut hit, 'The A Team'. At only 20 he already has an impressive career behind him - one that is only eclipsed by what lies ahead for this young singer/songwriter.
Already a winner at The BRITs 2012, Emeli Sandé adds to her Critics' Choice win with a nomination for British Breakthrough. Formerly a songwriter and occasional guest vocalist, in 2011 Emeli stepped into the spotlight with her distinct blend of pop, soul and trip-hop, as heard on hit singles 'Heaven' and 'Daddy'.
Does Jessie J need an introduction? Hardly. An inescapable pop force over the past 12 months, Jessie started 2011 with her hit 'Do It Like A Dude' and starts 2012 with 'Domino' challenging for No.1 - scoring another four inbetween. Is a second BRIT award in store for her?
The Vaccines are one of the most exciting names in British guitar-pop right now, and have been since their nomination for the 2011 Critics' Choice award. Mixing old fashion rock 'n roll with irresistible pop hooks, The Vaccines have built a reputation as one of the UK's most exciting live bands - as well as enjoying chart success with their debut album, 'What Did You Expect From The...'.
