New 2011 Vivienne Westwood styled trophy unveiled
In a year that has seen many exciting new changes for The BRIT Awards, today sees the much awaited unveiling of the new 2011 BRIT statue.
The BRITs have created a new ‘blank canvas’ trophy that will be restyled each year by leading British creative individuals, making the trophy unique to each year.
This year it has been styled by Britain’s most influential fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood. Known for her eye-catching timeless designs in the world of fashion, today we see her vision for the inaugural makeover of the BRITs statue.
Of having Vivienne onboard, BRITs Chairman David Joseph said, ‘Vivienne stands for all the things we want to inspire in tomorrow’s generation of artists. She continues to be unique, innovative not to mention massively inspired by music and vice versa. We are honoured she accepted our offer of designing 2011’s trophy.’
The exciting creative partnership between The BRIT Awards and Vivienne Westwood signifies the close association between fashion and music that has always distinguished British music from the rest of the world. From The Beatles and their sharp, matching suits to the punk and new romantic movement that Westwood has influenced, The BRIT Awards will continue this tradition as it moves forward into a new era.
This unveiling comes on the day when the nominations for this year’s awards are to be announced. The nominees will be revealed at an exclusive event at London’s Indigo2 where guests will be treated to performances from Tinie Tempah & Ellie Goulding, The Wanted and winner of the prestigious Critics’ Choice Award, Jessie J. The nominations will be televised on ITV2 on Friday 14th at 8pm.
